Simon Cook
Simon joined as an accountancy trainee straight from school and was one of MJ&Co first employees back in 1989. As a trainee, one of Simon’s roles was to convert clients’ crude book-keeping into basic accounts, a role which other staff at MJ&Co still perform to this day. As Simon passed more and harder exams his level of responsibility grew and within 5 years he was able to complete the personal tax returns of clients. Revelling in this responsibility and continuing with his qualifications, the next big promotion for Simon was to become practice manager at the age of 27, exceptionally young in accountancy, however David Jones had no doubt that Simon, with over 10 years experience and training, was up to the task and so it proved.
Ten years ago, MJ&Co moved to its offices to its current location on Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury. Simon, by this point, was qualified to finalise the tax affairs of all businesses up to and including Limited Company accounts. Around this time Simon created the MJ&Co Payroll Bureau for existing clients and the wider business community, providing PAYE support to small businesses to help them deal with increasingly complex employment administration including the new Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit system.
By 2008 Simon, now fully qualified as a Member of the Association of Accountancy Technician as well as achieving membership of the Accountancy body the Institute of Certified Public Accountants, was ready to make the step up to role of partner at MJ&Co. Simon having been mentored by David over the last 23 years is experienced and highly competent in the development and Tax Requirements of SME business.
Away from the office Simon also likes to support the local community and gives a significant of his time to the local Cub Scout Association and uses his accountancy skills as Treasurer for the Shrewsbury Carnival and Show.
